Arizona’s luxury resort market for private in-room jacuzzis is centered on Scottsdale and Paradise Valley, with Sedona as the second cluster. The Phoenician is the landmark property, a Forbes Five-Star resort at the base of Camelback Mountain that has been the benchmark for Arizona luxury since it opened in 1988. Suite categories include in-room whirlpool tubs with valley or mountain views, butler service in the higher tiers, and access to a spa that routinely appears on national best-of lists. Sanctuary Camelback Mountain is the design-forward alternative, a smaller, more intimate property on the cliff face above Paradise Valley with spa suites built around floor-to-ceiling windows facing the mountain. Andaz Scottsdale’s 19-acre casita campus rounds out the Scottsdale luxury tier.
Sedona’s luxury options are different in character. L’Auberge de Sedona and Enchantment Resort are not large-resort properties, they’re intimate retreat experiences where the setting does the heavy lifting. L’Auberge has 88 rooms along Oak Creek. Enchantment has casita rooms in a slot canyon. Both charge luxury rates ($350 to $600+ per night) and deliver experiences that aren’t available at price-equivalent Scottsdale properties. For travelers who want nature as the amenity rather than resort infrastructure, Sedona is the stronger luxury choice.
Tucson adds a third cluster with a wellness focus. Miraval Arizona, 30 miles north of Tucson in the Catalina Mountains, is a life-enrichment resort, all-inclusive, no-tech-device philosophy, activity programming around wellness and mindfulness. Canyon Ranch at Tucson operates on a similar model as a 150-acre wellness resort with medically supervised programs. Loews Ventana Canyon has a more conventional luxury resort structure with Sonoran Desert setting, in-room soaking tub options, and two Arnold Palmer golf courses. These three properties serve a Tucson luxury market that is distinct from Scottsdale in clientele and purpose.
