Park City is the crown of Utah skiing, a former silver-mining town where a historic Main Street of restaurants and galleries sits below two major ski mountains (Park City Mountain and Deer Valley), 35 minutes from the Salt Lake airport. The lodging runs slope-side condos to Main Street boutiques, with whirlpool suites and hot tubs the standard après-ski equipment, a soak under falling snow after a day on the mountain is the whole Park City formula. The Olympic legacy (bobsled, ski jumps) and Sundance add the year-round draws.
The Cottonwood Canyons, above Salt Lake City, hold the deepest snow. Alta and Snowbird in Little Cottonwood run the serious-skier’s powder (Alta remains skiers-only), while Solitude and Brighton in Big Cottonwood offer the quieter version, all with lodge stock where the hot tub is essential winter equipment. Midway and Heber City in the Heber Valley add the quieter, more affordable base just over the ridge.
Winter is the headline, ski season and Sundance in January price the resorts at their peak, booking months ahead, but summer is a real second season: the mountains run lift-served hiking and biking, the Deer Valley concerts, and cool alpine air, at a fraction of ski rates. Fall’s aspens are spectacular and cheap. Book ski holidays and Sundance far ahead; the slope-side suites with hot tubs go first.
