About

Hotels with Jacuzzi in Room in Durango, Telluride & Southwest Colorado Jacuzzi Hotels

The San Juans are Colorado’s most dramatic range, and the towns wedged into them run on character the resort corridors can’t manufacture. Durango is the hub — a railroad town whose 1882 narrow-gauge steam line still runs the gorge to Silverton daily in season, one of the great train rides on the continent. Main Avenue keeps its Victorian hotel stock working, Purgatory resort covers the skiing 25 minutes north, and the Animas River runs whitewater straight through town. Mesa Verde National Park, 35 minutes west toward Cortez, holds the Cliff Palace and 600 other Ancestral Puebloan cliff dwellings — the densest archaeology in the country.

Telluride sits at the closed end of a box canyon with a 365-foot waterfall hanging over town, and its free gondola — the only free public-transit gondola in North America — links the historic district to the Mountain Village resort. The festival calendar (film in September, bluegrass in June) books the town solid on its own. Ouray, over the range on the Million Dollar Highway — the white-knuckle stretch of US 550 across Red Mountain Pass — calls itself the Switzerland of America and backs the claim with a town-run hot springs pool, a winter ice climbing park in a gorge at the edge of town, and lodging where the soak is the point.

Pagosa Springs closes the loop east with the deepest measured geothermal spring on record — the Guinness-certified Mother Spring feeds terraced pools stepping down to the San Juan River, and half the town’s hotels pipe the mineral water into their own soaking tubs. This is the corner of Colorado where a private jacuzzi and a natural hot spring live in the same itinerary every day of the trip. Summer and fall are peak — the train, the passes, and the festivals all run — while ski season keeps Telluride and Purgatory busy and turns Ouray’s ice park into a January destination of its own.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The historic Main Avenue properties carry whirlpool suite categories, resort lodging near Purgatory adds condo hot tubs, and the hot springs towns — Ouray and Pagosa — build entire properties around soaking. Telluride’s lodges cover the luxury end. Every listing on this page is verified.
A coal-fired narrow-gauge steam line running since 1882, climbing the Animas River gorge from Durango to the mining town of Silverton — about 3.5 hours each way through terrain with no road access. It runs daily May through October plus winter Polar Express trips, and books out weeks ahead in summer.
US 550 between Ouray and Silverton is a paved two-lane over 11,000-foot Red Mountain Pass with sheer drops and no guardrails on stretches — spectacular in good weather, serious in bad. Summer and early fall are comfortable for careful drivers; winter crossings are for experienced mountain drivers only.
The Mother Spring holds the Guinness record for the world’s deepest measured geothermal spring — over 1,000 feet, plumb line never found bottom — and feeds two dozen terraced pools stepping down to the San Juan River. Several hotels pipe the mineral water into private tubs, making it the most literal hot-tub-hotel town in Colorado.
Arguably at its best — summer hangs Bridal Veil Falls (Colorado’s tallest free-fall at 365 feet) over town, the free gondola runs for hiking, and the festival calendar (Bluegrass in June, Film in September) is the town’s real signature. Fall color in the box canyon rivals anywhere in the state.
The park entrance is about 35 minutes west; the cliff dwellings sit another 45 minutes inside on the mesa roads. Cliff Palace and Balcony House tours are ranger-guided and ticketed — book ahead in summer. Most visitors base in Durango or Cortez and give it a full day.
A man-made ice climbing park in the Uncompahgre Gorge at the edge of town — free to climb, farmed nightly with sprayed water, and the reason Ouray fills in January. Even for non-climbers it’s worth the walk, and the town hot springs pool afterward completes the day.
Months ahead — Bluegrass (June) and the Film Festival (early September) book the box canyon solid, with lodging locked up as soon as dates release. Shoulder weeks around the festivals keep the scenery at normal rates. Ridgway and Montrose, 45 minutes out, are the overflow bases.
