Summit County is the most concentrated ski real estate in North America, Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain, and Arapahoe Basin all sit within a 20-minute radius, two hours up I-70 from Denver. Breckenridge is the anchor: a genuine 1859 gold rush town with a preserved Victorian Main Street running directly into the base of a five-peak ski resort. The rental market here made the private hot tub a standard amenity long ago. Condos and lodge suites compete on it, and ski-in units where the jetted tub sits a few steps from the boot bench are the local specialty.
Keystone runs quieter and more family-oriented, with night skiing, rare in Colorado, and a big base-village condo inventory. Copper Mountain, the locals’ favorite for terrain that sorts itself naturally by ability, keeps its own compact base village. Frisco and Dillon sit in the middle of it all on the Dillon Reservoir, and they’re the value play: full hotel and lodge inventory ten minutes from four different mountains, at rates meaningfully under slope-side pricing. Silverthorne adds outlet shopping and more beds off the highway.
Christmas week and Presidents Day week are the two dates that break booking plans, slope-side jacuzzi units go six to eight weeks out. January is the skier’s value month. Summer is Summit County’s quiet second act: the reservoir fills with sailboats, the bike path network connects every town in the county, and hot tub condos run at half their winter rates. Fall shoulder season, late September through October, brings gold aspen across the Tenmile Range and the year’s lowest prices.
